The concert for the Queen turned
out pretty well. Part of Virginia’s May 3 2007 “Royal Welcome”, it was only mildly hampered by a little rain. It was a real treat and a great honor to share the stage with such noted Virginians as Jazz Great Steve Wilson, singer Carlton Blount, and Larry Bland and the Volunteer Choir. (I’ll post some clips as soon as I get my hands on the footage.)
Earlier in the day I got to hear and hang out with Bluegrass legend, Ralph Stanley. He’s so tiny. I just wanted to squeeze him. I ogled and fawned over him, and he was barley aware of my presence. I got some good pics with my phone and he was awed by my “magic talking box”.
All in all it was a blast. It also offered some international exposure. When I find it, I will post the two minutes of footage of me singing in the background while an NBC talking head describes what the Queen is wearing. (Also a big “thankyou” to my friend Andy Edmunds, who got me the gig.)
